Currently Bowden Environmental is comprised of : Michael; Maureen; Erin & Christine. Each member of the staff has their own specialty ranging from engineering to geology to business skills. Between them the company has worked on the investigation and the assessment of the environmental effects on flood protection works, waste discharges, and water abstractions.

 

Michael Michael

Michael is a registered engineer and the founding director of Bowden Environmental.

Michael has a long history of experience in resource management, including:

  • Six years as the CEO of Environment Canterbury.
  • Six years in charge of the flood protection design on the Heretaunga Plains and four years in charge of water resource investigations for the Hawkes Bay Catchment Board.
  • As the Water Resource and Design Engineer for the North Canterbury Catchment Board. In this role he supervised the investigations of the water resources of the Waiau, Hurunui, Ashley and Rakaia rivers, also undertaking a review of the flood protection schemes in North Canterbury.
  • As a member of a working party commissioned by the Ministry for the Environment to prepare background papers during preparation of the draft Resource Management Act.
  • As a co-author of twenty six publications on water resources and holds a diploma in Public Health Engineering.
  • He has a decade of experienced design and maintenance of public water supply and sewage systems.
  • His experience also includes structural design work including pre-stressed concrete bridges and flood protection.
  • Michael is currently working as Commissioner on the Upper Waitaki Hearing.
     

Maureen Maureen

Since 1998 Maureen has been responsible for the day to day running of the business. Maureen has a broad background in computing, administrative services, report compilation, and research referencing, and has worked on a number of reports relating to the environmental effects of activities controlled by the Resource Management Act.

 

Erin Erin

Erin has completed her Master of Science, and has a Bachelor of Applied Science (Hons І) in Environmental Management.

Erin’s Masters Research focused on glacial geomorphology in the Mount Cook area. This research has combined non-invasive geophysical technique, which images the structure of the subsurface with detailed investigation of glacial sediments to determine the origin of the glacial landforms.

Erin oversees many of the consent applications generated by the company, and has a part to play in the hearings.

In October 2009 Erin sucessfully completed the 'Making Good Decisions' course and is available as a 'Commissioner'.

 

ChristineChristine Mawhinney

Christine holds a Bachelor of Science in Geology and Geography and a Post Graduate Diploma of Science in Geography, completed at University of Canterbury.  Her background includes a variety of administrative roles in local electricity and well drilling industries before joining the team at Bowden Environmental in January.


Christine has a son in the NZ Army, and in her spare time enjoys working on her house and in her garden.
